Police began receiving calls at 9:52 a.m. indicating a shooting at the Walmart store in Duncan, Oklahoma, a spokeswoman for the Duncan Police Department told Business Insider.
When authorities arrived on the scene, they found a man dead outside of a car in the store’s parking lot, she said. Two more fatalities — a woman and a man — were found inside the car. A handgun was found on the scene.
The shooting suspect was among the three fatalities, the police spokeswoman said. Police believe the individuals knew each other, she said.
A Walmart spokesperson said Monday that the company was looking into the incident.
Area public schools were temporarily on lockdown around the time of the shooting, according to a post on Duncan Public Schools’ Facebook page.
“Duncan Public Schools is aware of the report of a shooting at Duncan Walmart,” the post stated. “As always we are taking every precaution to protect our staff and students. At this time all schools are in lockdown due to this report. Schools will operate as normal, but visitors will not be admitted until police report it is safe.”
