Viola Davis has landed her first beauty gig. The acclaimed actress will be the newest face of L’Oreal makeup.
In a statement announcing her new brand ambassadorship, Davis said that she has suffered from low self-esteem for much of her life, and hopes that by appearing in ads for the cosmetics giant, she can inspire other women who don’t think of themselves as a classic beauty.
Viola, who is 54, also said that she wants “to convey that there is beauty to every age”, explaining that “Youthfulness is beauty in its most obvious sense, there’s classical beauty, but with age and experience comes confidence – and there is nothing more beautiful to radiate than that”.
The first black performer to have won the so-called Triple Crown of acting, taking home an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony Award, Davis joins L’Oreal’s diverse group of famous faces, that includes women such as Helen Mirren, Elle Fanning, Celine Dion, Eva Longoria and Aja Naomi King.
