Stella McCartney makes a sustainability statement

Fashion designer Stella McCartney is no stranger when it comes to environmental activism, and the daughter of singer Paul McCartney and activist Linda McCartney used her show at 2019’s Paris Fashion Week to make a statement about the need for the fashion industry to step up to the plate and help save the planet. She urged the clothing industry to acknowledge that we are in a climate crisis and that sustainability is “not just a trend”.

McCartney, who founded her eponymous label in 2001, is known for not using animal products in her designs, but this year’s collection is Stella’s most sustainable yet, with the designer opting for alternative, more planet-friendly materials. Alongside her sustainable designs, she also sent out a press release listing all of the eco-friendly materials she used for her creations. Now it remains to be seen if more designers follow in Stella’s footsteps.
