Hundreds of protesters converged on the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) to demand to be addressed by President Cyril Ramaphosa who was in in attendance at the World Economic Forum Africa 2019 summit. Violent scenes played out in the precinct surrounding the CTICC as police struggled to hold the protesters back. Protesters blockaded the highway alongside the Connvention Centre during peak afternoon traffic and were eventually repelled with stun grenades and water canons.
