The title plays similarly to other titles of its genre like League of Legends, in that teams of five battle it out to eliminate each member and their respective base. However, this title allows players to take on some of their favorite Pokémon like Snorlax, Gengar, Charmelon, Blastoise, Lucario, and many more.
“During these battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon,” according to an official description. “They will need to defeat their opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.”
Battles will take place in real-time. As you progress through battles, alongside leveling up and learning new moves, each Pokémon will also possess a unique “Unite” move. However, unlike standard Pokémon titles, there aren’t type advantages. The side that scores the most points by the end of the match wins.
Pokémon UNITE marks the first strategic Pokémon team battle game to ever arrive and it was developed by both TiMi Studios and Tencent Games. The title is expected to be free to start, meaning some in-game microtransactions are most likely abound.
Although there is no current release date for Pokémon UNITE, which is slated to arrive on mobile and the Nintendo Switch, there is a trailer above which gives us our first look at some gameplay.
