QUOTE: Ariel Schulman & Henry Joost

“I think there’s a great duality to the Internet.”

“It can be both, it can be both things. It can be the greatest thing that ever happened to you and it can connect you with people you’ve never met and never would have ordinarily would have met or it can you know.. there can be great tide of hatred and all kinds of awful things coming to you.”

I’s a vaccination and a disease.”

“Like he said.”

This film features some very complicated stunts. However, those didn’t turn out to be the biggest challenge. The real issues the cast and crew encountered were of a much simpler nature.

QUOTE: Ariel Schulman & Henry Joost

“I don’t think we realized as we were developing the movie that it takes place in one night which means we’d be shooting practically nights and only nights. There’s like 15 minutes in the movie in daytime so it ended up being like 29 night shoots which really takes its toll on the psychology of the crew.”

QUOTE: Emma Roberts

“I mean it was a grueling schedule we were on coz the whole movie is at night so would literally shoot from 5PM to 5AM.”

“Till sunrise yeah”

“Yeah, we’d be going home in like rush hour traffic in the morning, we’d be driving back to sleep I had to like literally hang black tarp all over the apartment because I.. it literally looked very sketchy in there, people were like,; why do you have black tarp, I’m like, I’m on night shoots.”

From getting a tattoo to dancing on tables in a restaurant, the protagonists face some hardcore dares. For actress Emma Roberts however, there were two that really stood out when shooting those scenes.

QUOTE: Emma Roberts

“The motorcycle dare and the ladder dare there were moments where I was like you guys really might have to get someone else to do this while looks like me because I don’t know if I can do it, because it’s one thing to say that you’re gonna do it but then when you’re in that moment, it’s really scary and especially up on that ladder coz I’m scared of heights so they had like some other stunt girl like off to the side just I case coz we had to like get it done that night and but.. I did it.. I did it.

“It was pretty amazing I think it gives her performance this kind of authenticy you’d never get on green screen stage or something like that. She’s really on a ladder, two stories in the air.. three stories in the air I don’t know..”

’Nerve’ eventually became a moderate hit. It received average reviews and isn’t what most folks would consider a must watch. Commercially it did okay, though, grossing in $85 million dollars on a $19 million production budget. More than anything, however, this 2016 pic serves a social commentary and is likely to only increase in relevance as the years go by.
