Matt Damon has revealed the most money he ever turned down for a role… and it’s a lot.
In an interview with co-star Christian Bale about their new film ‘Ford v Ferrari’, the discussion turned to take jobs for money. Damon confessed that director James Cameron had offered him the lead in 2009’s ‘Avatar’, a deal that included a 10% cut of the movie’s profits. Matt said no, but of course ‘Avatar’ went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time, meaning the actor’s cut of the take would have been a staggering $250 million dollars.
Bale had apparently never heard the story, and joked that the philanthropic Damon could be saving the world now with that much money, but Matt remained philosophical about it, noting that yes, he’s probably “left more money on the table than any other actor”, but that his kids have enough to eat, and he’s doing just fine.
