The new sci-fi drama ‘Lucy in the Sky’ had it’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Leading stars Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm and Zazie Beetz were all there to greet fans and celebrate the occasion. The film tells the story of a female astronaut who begins to lose touch with reality when she returns to Earth after a mission to space.

Natalie was determined to join the film because she felt her character went through unusual circumstances.

“Specialist. Lucy? Time to wrap it up, we’re going home.”

Quote: Natalie Portman

“Well, I think it’s so rare to get the opportunity to see a woman having an existential crisis on screen. Where it’s literally having seen the Earth from space makes you realize how small it is. It just makes you completely different when you’re back and to examen that kind of change was really exciting.”

“The crooks of the relationship between Natalie’s character and my character is that we share this relatively unique experience and how do you talk about that once you

have it with anybody else and when you have a profound experience and you want to share it with someone and they have no way in on it, it’s a real difficult thing. And when you meet somebody that does and you can actually talk, there’s a spark there. And I think that’s what the… the spark is what I think, drove Noah to make this film.

Quote: Noah Hawley

“All that Natalie knows in this movie is that there’s a feeling that she had that she wants to get back, and so she looks for it here and she looks for it here. And you know, she ends up making some bad decisions, but not for a bad reason.”

“I just feel a little off.”

“Eight.”

“You go up there, you see…”

“Seven.”

“The whole universe.”

“Six.”

“And everything here looks…”

“Five, four.”

“So small.”

Quote: Zazie Beetz

“I feel like to me it’s about the feeling of identity and the loss of and trying to regain it and kind of how we’re thrown in this chaos and we’re trying to make sense of it in this very kind of, confined space of our daily lives. And I think that’s too much for some people, if you don’t kind of have like a foundation to base yourself off of.”

For newcomer Pearl Amanda Dickson this is her first feature film and meeting her big co-star Portman was a little, uhm, awkward.

“Oh my God, well it was like the weirdest meeting situation ever because I had to run to get like this wardrobe fixed and she was just standing right there and I was like: Hi Natalie I’m Pearl and she was like, hi Pearl. And I was like, I got to go! And so I like ran past her, but our next meeting was great and I love her and she’s so great but the first meeting was super awkward, cause I was like ‘I’m sorry I have this wardrobe malfunction that I have to change.”

Go and see ‘Lucy in the Sky’ as soon as you can.
