When Justin Bieber proposed to Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) in July 2018, she said she called her parents and told them, “This is the time I need you to stop me from doing something crazy if you think this is a bad idea.”
In the fourth episode of the “Yummy” singer’s YouTube docuseries, “Justin Bieber: Seasons,” Hailey spoke about the moment that she told her parents about wanting to marry the pop star, who proposed around a month after they began publicly dating again following their 2016 split.
“In my heart I knew that’s what I wanted to do,” the 23-year-old model recalled, however she wanted to discuss the marriage with her parents, actor and producer Stephen Baldwin and graphic designer Kennya Baldwin.
Hailey said that she expected them to tell her to “relax and take a breath and think about this and see how you feel in like 24 hours or a week.”
However, she said that they responded, “Honestly, we think that this is meant to be for you and we know that this is what you want, so we trust you.”
Although the timeline was fast, she said, “Him and I have known each other for so long that there was a part of it that didn’t feel scary.”
She continued, “It’s just such a big life decision that it was just, it was so much emotion all at one time.”
The couple tied the knot in a New York City courthouse in September 2018 and held a larger reception the following year at the Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina.
Before Justin and Hailey rekindled in 2018, Stephen became acquainted with the young artist.
In 2009, he accompanied Hailey to the set of NBC’s “Today” show to see the “Baby” singer perform. Her uncle, SNL comedian Alec Baldwin, gifted her tickets, according to Vogue. Stephen and Justin’s mother, Pattie Mallette, were both born-again Christians and reportedly became friends.
In his docuseries, Justin says that his now-wife wasn’t overly excited to meet him. “She didn’t care at all,” he shares.
“I was never a superfan, of him or of anyone,” Hailey told Vogue. “It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him.”
The 10-part YouTube docuseries, “Justin Bieber: Seasons,” premiered on Monday.
